The Killers of the Flower Moon Book

Killers of the Flower Moon

Written by David Grann, The Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of FBI, was titled as one of the best books of 2017 by the New York Times and many other journals and newsletters, also one of the best-reviewed books of the year.

This book won an Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime, an Indies Choice Award for the best adult nonfiction book of the year, a Spur Award for best work of historical nonfiction, Anthony Award for Best Critical/Nonfiction Work, and the Oklahoma Book Award for an outstanding book on Oklahoma history

This book describes a series of murders of the book that took place in the 19th century when the Osage gained a lot of wealth due to the discovery of oil under their land, haphazardly investigated by various law enforcement unless the FBI agent J. Edgar Hoover took the lead.

About the Author of the Book

David Elliot Grann, one of the best-selling authors and award-winning writer, whose first bok was #1 New York Times bestseller, published another amazing book on April 18, 2017.

As David Grann, in an interview, talked about his journey as the author of The Killers of the Flower Moon, he said that he had never heard of this incident but at one point, a historian had mentioned it to him. And then he made a trip out to the Osage Nation in Oklahoma and he visited a museum there. At that point, he had no plans of writing a book or even a story or anything. When he was at the museum, there was a great photograph on the wall taken in 1924.

It showed the members of the Osage Nation with white settlers. It looked very important but then he noticed that a portion of the photograph was missing. He asked the museum director about it and she told David that it had a figure so frightening that she decided to remove it. She then pointed to the missing panel and told him that the devil was right there.

Killers of the Flower Moon

She went down in the basement and brought up an image of the missing panel. It actually had an image of one of the killers of the Osage, the demon, who had murdered many of them for their oil money. What went through David’s mind was that the Osage had removed that picture not to forget what happened, but because they couldn’t forget. And yet so many people, including us, had no idea of this event. This book, written by him, grew out of trying to understand what was the figure was.

He later went through an old logbook of the white guardians of the Osage Nation, which had every guardian and the Osage people whose wealth they maintained. It had a horrible number of deaths of the Osage people under every guardian’s name, more than any death rate in any nation and this created a sense of conspiracy. The book slowly turned from who did it to who didn’t do it.

Conclusion

Everyone is waiting for the movie to be released and is hoping for the film to be as amazing as the book was.
